In living Life, everything around you in the physical world is constantly changing. You and who you think you are is based on the beliefs of who or what you are, and what the world is.
If you believe that you are a victim to circumstance and that things happen in and around the world that are not of your control and doing, then all you can be is a person in a world amongst the changing experiences waiting for your inevitable human death.
What you focus on grows.
If you become aware of yourself amongst the changing thoughts, desires and experiences and you wish to know more of what or who you are then you will focus on the Self which does not change with the thoughts, desires and experiences.
Once you become aware of the Self and its presence, if you do nothing then you will let your awareness go where it will go without any discipline. The chances of it moving from its immersion in the activity of the senses and outward activity of the world on its own are slim to none. To do nothing in this case means that you will take what you know and experience in this now and project it into the future and your experiences of the future will contain the past impression of your idea of who you are.
Because life is change and the mind follows the ideas it experiences it will pick and choose what it likes in what to identify with. Because we have a habit of distracting ourselves by the beliefs we have been taught it is not an automatic habit to JUST BE.
To the waking state mind to just be means to relax into the experience, but the mind which holds onto past impressions cannot be still and present when it is carrying so many thoughts about the world and itself and is bringing them into the present experience. To be without changing the present experience of the self means you will be what you believe yourself and the world to be and since we know that beliefs inevitably change then who you are being based on a belief is just illusion.
To know the Self means to be intimate with the Self. As you know, in any relationship that you have with anyone it takes a bit of time to know the other person. You must be open to listen and set aside your own beliefs to know another and their beliefs and feelings. To understand how another person thinks means diving into their world and their understandings, their past and their feelings. Otherwise you can only assume that you know the person based on your own experience of life and most probably you will be projecting onto them that they will have the same reactions, thoughts and feelings about each moment as you do.
To know the Self is similar. There are many books and teachings that speak of the Self and will tell you a lot about the world and the Self/self, but how stable is your being when you are just being what you have been told or what you have read about in a book? If the awareness is still dragging its past impressions about into the present experience now combining what you have been told or have read then you are carrying even more with you and the idea of relaxing into the present experience now includes so much more. It would be like going on a picnic and taking everything in your house with you.
The basis of all True Teachings is in the absolute/One/Ascendant. When the mind is immersed into the pure experience of the Ascendant then all past memories are dropped as the mind expands into the experience. Each time the mind drops into the pure experience of the Ascendant it is washed of its impressions. IF the mind could stay there on its own without any intent to do so it would, but it (The Mind) has been trained by the way we are told to believe in ourselves and the world and the experiences we have created through the beliefs of what the world is and who we are.
To do nothing is an analogy of the mind being still. To still the mind means you must have the desire to still it and have the ability to still it which all people do, but if you have not the experience to still it then how will you do so?
In the past people have tried to subject themselves to many disciplines to still the mind. People have lived in caves, wrapped themselves in hair shirts, stood on one leg and even starved themselves to force the mind into submission because it is always active in its translation of the senses and the bodily experiences. This is because this is the way the mind has been trained to work.
If we weren't in an environment where our parents have passed down the generations of beliefs onto us and our society has passed on the values of democratic beliefs we would see and experience the world without any impressions of the past. This is the idea of living in pure innocence, to see the world through the eyes of the present moment and without applying any preconceived ideas or past experiences into this moment.
Bringing the mind into the stillness of the pure experience of the Ascendant and stepping into the present moment creates the experience of Pure being.
This allows you to experience the moment as anyone would experience it without impressions of the past diluting it into personality fears and judgment.
So to just be means that the mind would have to be stilled into the pure experience of the ascendant. To do nothing implies that the senses are silenced and the mind is stilled from the activity of thought in past impressions.
IF this is the foundation of all of your experience and the way you live your life and this stillness radiates out into experience in the action of your universe then you are enlightened.
IF that is not your experience then you will need to discipline the mind by taking it inward beyond the senses, thoughts, desires and experiences to make it a habit rather than the habit you have created in keeping the mind active in outward sensory activity and the beliefs of past impressions.
Very few are born into enlightenment, unaffected by worldly beliefs and the illusions of mind created realities.
For the rest of us who were not born into the pure experience of Enlightenment, the contrast of experience helps us see what is born of the direction of thought and activity, and how the universe follows thought feeling and action.
Meditation is discipline and focus. Training for the mind and the awareness.
Just being in the sensory world expands the world of experience and the world becomes infinite, and the Self an experience between two points...Birth and Death of the physical body.
Just being from the awareness of the Ascendant in Union with the One and all things reduces the Universe to its rightful place as a thought held in the mind of the infinite Self, the Self being Immortal and Omniscient.
From there the world changes easily with the thoughts that are created from the Self.
Self Mastery is an art that has been recognized and sought out throughout the history of Humanity by those that recognize the difference in Love that is not limited by conditions and the love that is limited by conditions created from fear and beliefs.
